Along with our dedication to bringing you the healthiest and highest quality corals, Segrest Farms is also committed to assisting with the conservation and restoration of coral reefs around the globe.
Through our Coral Conservation Initiative, we are helping connect hobby and industry members with education, research, and conservation organizations to promote the conservation of coral reefs by advocating responsible sourcing practices such as aquaculture, mariculture, and sustainable collection.
This initiative will take a multi-phase approach in which we reach out to a variety of audiences. We will be partnering with AZA facilities to design and stock exhibits of aquacultured corals designed to educate their visitors. We will also be creating materials to educate hobbyists and the general public about corals, including highlighting the benefits of aquaculture, mariculture, and sustainable collection. Finally, we will also highlight coral conservation organizations from around the world to help find and identify quality organizations to support.

Aquarists Can Promote Conservation
As aquarists, we can play an important role in the conservation of the species we keep. The choices we make when buying fish and choosing suppliers has a powerful impact by funding sustainability efforts around the globe:
Captive breeding research, particularly learning how to aquaculture marine fish, is constantly expanding. The aquarium trade plays a vital role in funding this research.
In situ conservation uses the income from the aquarium trade to drive the protection of ecosystems around the world by their local communities.
Coral reef restoration projects receive significant funding from the aquarium trade which allows them to continue their work replanting and restoring reefs.
There are species that are only still in existence due to their popularity among fish keepers and the work done by dedicated hobbyists.
As a hobbyist, we should be proud of the positive impact we can have, and strive to continue to improve.
